Algorfa Integration Association

By davbat53

Over the past few weeks, meetings have been held at the San Vincente Cultural Centre in Algorfa, under the uspices of Samantha Biddles’ office at the Town Hall. The aim is to integrate both the Spanish and ex-pats, by various activities, other than class-room learning of the Spanish language.

Currently there are regular activities being attended by  ex-pats.

1. Thursday 4pm till 5pm in the library, childrens books are read by a librarian to help us get used to Spanish words, and to learn almost as a Spanish child would. I understand these sessions are proving very useful to those who go.

2 Bingo in the old pharamcia on the main street on Sundays 6-8 pm. This is a good way to learn numbers, and join in the fun. You might even win a few EUROS.

Recently , some of the EX-pat ladies joined the Spanish Women’s Association for one of their half yearly dinners, at El Coralito restaurant (apologies if spelt incorrectly) A great time was had by all, I gather.

The Algorfa Integration Association has just been formed , official start up 1st January 2009, and a committee elected. Membership is planned at €20 per annum, and lots of ideas are being mooted. Having a  legally constituted association , opens up the possibility of financial and educational support from some of the banks in the village. This will include books, day trips etc.

Details I am sure will be posted soon, by the committee, but already activities are planned for December.

December 20th   Opening of the Belen , in the square, carols will be sung by a mixed choir. This will be in the evening

December 24th   Mid-day, carols again by mixed choir, who will also sell hot chocolate in order to raise funds for the Algorfa Cancer Charity.

Under negotiation is the possibility of entertainment on Saturday 27th December, but nothing concrete yet.

The new association needs plenty of support to become successful. Maybe the new entertainments committee volunteers should consider getting involved, as it may avoid some duplication of effort.
